Former Doctor Accused of Assault Charges Involving Thirty-Eight Patients
Prosecutors report that a former physician stands accused of carrying out sexual assaults involving 38 victims who were patients.
The Serious Allegations
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.
A senior CPS official stated, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
The Investigation
These allegations follow what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.
The defendant will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
List of Offences
Prosecutors said the 45 charges include:
- Fifteen counts of assault.
- 17 counts of assault by penetration.
- 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
- 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
