The January transfer window is always a time of intense rumour and possible major moves. Several notable stars find themselves connected to moves out of their present teams. This article explores a selection of the major names that might be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the AFCON, this has kept the forward in contention, it appears a significant move is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker possesses a deal with a £65 million buy-out clause active for a short window at the start of the month. Recent reports point to the Premier League champions look to have won the race for his signature. Former interested parties such as Chelsea and Tottenham reportedly have moved on to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late bid.

M. Guéhi

This England centre-back has continued to impress for Crystal Palace this season a previous move to Liverpool collapsing. With his deal due to run out in the summer, January is the London club's final chance to secure a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous top sides, including Manchester City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. However, a winter departure remains difficult, particularly given the manager's dependence on the defender.

B. Johnson

The Welsh winger has found starting minutes hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Although finishing as the club's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started just a handful of Premier League matches. It is understood the North London club is willing to consider a transfer for the right valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth are currently at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be poised for a comeback to the English top flight after a spell in the Saudi Pro League. Now only twenty-eight, and with his contract expiring in the summer, he represents a possible bargain. Teams such as Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he is prepared to take a pay cut for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

This veteran German shot-stopper finds himself as the third option at Barcelona following new manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and had surgery, a January departure seems increasingly probable. Villa were once linked as a possible destination, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This prolific English striker has kept finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his fading chances of being in the England squad. However, arranging a transfer presents major challenges. His current club are reluctant to part with him, and his alleged huge salary make any agreement complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been mentioned as interested parties.

The striker was instrumental as Al-Ahli to a win in the Saudi Super Cup showpiece.

C. Gallagher

The dynamic midfielder drew widespread attention in the off-season but remained at Atlético Madrid. Having few starts in Spain this term, he is eager to find more minutes ahead of the tournament. Manchester United have been strongly connected, and a return to Crystal Palace, where he shone on loan, is also a option, although financial demands could prove a stumbling block.

H. Elliott

Despite starring and winning player of the tournament at the U21 Euros in the summer, the talented midfielder has struggled for game time during his loan spell at Villa. The manager has stated the loan move will not become permanent. Because of FIFA regulations regarding playing for multiple teams in a season, a move back to his parent club prior to next summer appears to be the sole available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkey forward has been in excellent form for the Italian giants this season. As his current contract nearing its end, many English clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but face a race to retain one of Europe's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is widely tipped to complete a major transfer in January. Newcastle reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
