The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had countless followers watch the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
